Dortmund U19 won their sixth match in a row, and twelfth in thirteen, with victory courtesy of a sole Josef Odenthal goal in this morning’s Group 3 youth league match over the visiting VfL Bochum. Karl-Heinz Horn played a neat through-ball for Bungert three minutes before the break, and the 16 year-old striker lashed in his fourth goal of the campaign.
Four youth players were set to miss the fixture after being selected by the first team to travel to Illinois, but visa issues prevented them travelling for the exhibition match at Chicago Fire, so Odenthal and Horn, as well as Wout Devriendt and Emiliano Mancinelli were available for selection by U19 coach Rodolfo Borrell.
With leaders Leverkusen losing at home to Schalke, the gap at the top is down to just two points, though BVB slip below Aachen on goal difference after they won 3-0 at Fortuna Köln to sneak ahead. Dortmund’s next match is at Aachen in a fortnight.
