BVB Youth: Candidates Impress in 2-1 Defeat

The entire BVB management and backroom staff watched the U19 squad take on a team of youth candidates at Stadion Rote Erde this afternoon, with Rodolfo Borrell’s side winning 2-1 thanks to a Benjamin Bella brace.

After a goalless first-half where neither ‘keeper was tested, the game opened up when Bella hit a fantastic 25-yard free-kick into the top corner past Wolfgang Prus with twenty minutes to play. Five minutes later he’d doubled the lead when Saeid Hosaini rattled the crossbar from the edge of the box and Bella turned home the rebound.

Klaus Mesenhöler found the top corner from 15 yards to halve the deficit inside the final ten minutes, and was the best performer of the candidates, but Head of Youth Development Volker Kersting confirmed after the match that all of the players had been offered contracts through to their 17th birthdays.
