BVB’s U19 side are matching the senior team’s late charge towards the title after finally pulling clear at the top of Junioren-Bundesliga Group 3 with a 2-0 win over Düsseldorf at home this morning, while Leverkusen were stunned at home by Köln who came from two-down to take all three points.

Leverkusen who have been top for all but the last fortnight have only won two of their last six, while Dortmund have won eight in the row in the league and have on 20 of their last 22 matches in all competitions.

The opening 45′ barely merits a mention, with neither goalkeeper being called into action as both sides found it hard to break down resolute defending and wayward shots from distance being the only efforts on goal. The first time either ‘keeper was significantly involve was when Ingo Knoche picked the ball out the back of his net following Benjamin Bella’s fine 66th minute opener for Dortmund.

Dortmund started to turn the screw and were in complete control, and sealed the win when Marwin Kerstiens swept home a cross in stoppage time to make it 2-0. In Leverkusen, the home side were 2-0 up midway through the first-half, but three Köln goals in seventeen second-half goals saw them take all three points.

There’s just four matches to go in the competition. Dortmund face trips to Duisburg and Essen, before ending the campaign at home to Oberhausen and Mönchengladbach. BVB also compete in the national youth cup final against Cottbus on 03 May.
