El Cuarto! Real’s Fourth Successive La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 72nd minute strike at the Nou Camp was enough to see Real Madrid win their fourth La Liga title, at the ground of their fiercest rivals Barcelona.

Sociedad, Real Madrid’s nearest challengers, were held to a 2-2 draw in Granada and now mathematically cannot overhaul Real though the 19-point gap was always looking unlikely with Madrid defending their 2014 title with just one loss all season (a 5-2 defeat at Valencia in February).

Barcelona won four consecutive titles from 1991-1994, ending Real Madrid’s record-equalling five-in-a-row from 1986-1990 (after first achieving the feat between 1961-1965).

Five games remain in the league, before Real Madrid play Valencia in the Copa del Rey Final looking to retain the cup and complete a second-consecutive domestic treble.
