Reading have won their second Football League Championship title in four years after a 4-1 win at Ipswich Town in tonight’s sole fixture in the English second tier. The win puts them seven points clear of Norwich City in second place, who have just two games left to play this season (and a win at Swindon tomorrow would see them promoted).
Diogo Rosado fired Ipswich in front with just five minutes played, but a Pavel Pogrebnyak penalty and a strike from Rhys Williams turned the game on its head before half-time. Mauro Boselli and Danny Rose added second-half finishes as Reading moved to 93 points and will lift the trophy at home next Saturday on the final day of the season.
They won the FL Championship in 2012 and stayed-up the next season by a single point, despite not winning any of their final five matches. Relegation from the Premier League followed in 2014 when they fought back from two-down to draw 2-2 at Blackburn but couldn’t find a winner to survive.
