BVB are three without a win at home after being held by an Augsburg side fighting to retain their top-flight status. The defending champions found themselves a goal down in under three minutes but fought back to take a deserved lead into the break in their 50th match of the season.
Stevan Jovetic and Ivan Perisic then missed glorious opportunities to extend the lead before the visitors countered from a corner and drew level midway through the second-half. Mats Hummels hit the crossbar but Dortmund couldn’t find a winner.
Surman made three changes from the win in Berlin, with Heinz Lindner coming in between the sticks, Cimo Röcker getting a first start in eleven at left-back, and Dennis Praet started in the number ten role. Felipe Santana started his third match in a row, but was at fault for the opener.
With just two minutes played, he conceded the first foul of the game. The free-kick was lumped long into the Dortmund box where Werner headed down for Edu who stole a yard on Santana and swept Augsburg in front.
Ten minutes later Dortmund were level as Beck cut inside, found Götze on the overlap and his cross was thumped home at the near post by Stevan Jovetic to restore parity and lift the stunned Westfalenstadion.
Santana made amends for his earlier error with a number of clearing headers, and eight minutes before the break he knocked a short corner back to André Schürrle who had time and space to set up a shot from the edge of the box which he bent home into the bottom corner.
Jovetic blazed over the bar after he’d rounded Augsburg ‘keeper Giefer, substitute Ivan Perisic headed wide from six yards, then had a low drive tipped round the post as Dortmund created chance after chance to extend the lead. At a corner of their own, an Augsburg clearance went long and Erik Israelsson finished at the second attempt to grab a point for the visitors.

DORTMUND 0-1 AUGSBURG: A wonderful start for the visitors who celebrate like they’ve won the league. Santana fouls Oehrl in the centre circle, and Callsen-Bracker lofts the ball high into the box. Werner nods down for Edu who slams a half-volley into the bottom corner from around the penalty spot.
Signal Iduna Park is stunned as Dortmund restart the match.
Dortmund’s first effort on goal comes from André Schürrle who cuts in and drills low from the edge of the box. Giefer pushes it away and Augsburg clear as Götze plays it back into the box.
DORTMUND 1-1 AUGSBURG: Parity is restored with a fine move down the right from the hosts. Beck does a lot of the hard work, cutting inside from the right wing before finding Götze on the overlap. He drills it in towards the six-yard box where Stevan Jovetic pounces at the near post.

Jovetic beats two men but he’s off-target as he cuts inside.
Two minutes to be added on.
[45+1] Röcker concedes a free-kick on Augsburg’s right wing, but makes amends with a fine clearing header that lands perfectly for Andreas Beck who only has one defender to beat as he breaks forwards.

Perisic holds his head in his hands after puitting a header wide from inside the six-yard box. The ball is worked to Götze who has a shot blocked by Ostrzolek, but no one reacts and he has time to lift the ball back in for Perisic, but his header somehow drops inches wide.
It’s been all Dortmund, but they can’t work a third. Schürrle smashes one inches over the top.

Beck and Perisic both have efforts on goal from Götze’s corner, but Augsburg have packed the six-yard box and block both before clearing long.

FULL-TIME: Borussia Dortmund 2-2 FC Augsburg (Bundesliga). [PKM]
A tremendously disappointing result for the leaders who haven’t won here in three matches. They dominated throughout, and really should have pulled more than 2-1 ahead when Jovetic then Perisic failed to hit the target from close range.
The opening goal was a set-piece when Dortmund weren’t awake, and the equaliser was a classic counter attack that we’ve seen Dortmund score here many a time over the last couple of seasons. BVB have just one match left here this season, and they’ll want nothing more than a convincing win.
There’s six days before the trip to Bayern Munich on Friday night, and BVB will know that three points today could have all but sealed them the title at the Allianz-Arena with a win, but Augsburg have kept it open for the rest of the top four.
