Sunday 24 May: Juvé Do Double, and Other News

Daily Diary, Sunday 24th May 2015:

Juventus have done the domestic double with a 4-1 win over Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia Final this evening, four weeks after retaining their Serie A title.

Inter could have easily found themselves five-down come the interval, but Juvé were happy for their two-goal advantage at the break with Fabio Quagliarella and Manolo Gabbiadini firing home early on, before Quagliarella hit the wood work three times before half-time.

Sebastian Giovinco extended the lead midway through the second-half, but Inter pulled a goal back through a fine Samuele Longo header almost immediately. Inside the final five minutes, Giovinco sealed the win with a lovely 25-yarder past Samir Handanovic.

Borussia Dortmund have been paid an extra £30,000 as part of the transfer that took 20 year-old striker Said Benkarit to Hansa Rostock last summer, after his tenth goal of the season (in the 2.Liga Playoff) triggered a clause in the deal. The Second Leg against Offenbach takes place tomorrow, Hansa have a 3-0 lead.

A number of managers now find themselves out of work after the conclusion of domestic top-flight seasons across Europe:

  • Amandio Barreiras, Boavista
  • Frank Dauwen, Westerlo
  • Pascal Dupraz, Evian TG
  • Thierry Lauery, AC Arles-Avignon
  • Andreas Möller, Leiria
  • Eric Sikora, RC Lens
