Borussia Dortmund are rumoured to be interested in the services of Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge, according to reports in English newspapers this morning. 24 year-old Sturridge hasn’t made an appearance for the first team this season, but has scored 5 times in 6 starts in the U21 Development League.

Neither Chelsea or Dortmund commented on the rumours, though a fee in the region of £10m is the rumoured figure. As they did with Marouane Chamakh last season, BVB may prefer a loan deal in the new year.

Bottom side Fürth slumped to a thirteen league match without a win today, letting a two-goal lead slip and conceding in the 92nd minute to lose 3-2 at home to Nürnberg who climb to 10th. Fürth started very well and were 2-0 inside eleven minutes through Fall and Theuerkauf.

Pekhart pulled one back for the visitors just before the break, before Asare drew them level just after it. The killer blow came in the second minute of stoppage time where Tomas Pekhart nodded home the winner after Fürth didn’t clear their lines from a corner.

Turkey and the Czech Republic have both confirmed that they have parted ways with their head coaches after both nations failed to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Turkey have sacked Abdullah Avci after they finished 4th in Group 4 behind Netherlands, Romania and Hungary, missing out on the Playoffs by two points.

The Czech Republic dispensed with the services of Michal Bilek after they lost their final qualifier 3-2 to Denmark where a win would have seen them make the playofs.

Assistant Manager Zeljko Buvac wanted to comment specifically on the improvement and progress of defensive midfielder Sven Bender during the club’s regular training meeting today. Buvac was very impressed by the recent form of the player after an indifferent season last year, and feels his continued presence in the starting XI helped no end.

Three players were given new training programmes to work on: Thomas Meißner to improve his agility, Ivan Perisic to be coached on driving centrally through the middle, and Neven Subotic to work on releasing the ball early from the back.
