The result lifts Köln out of the bottom three, leapfrogging Hannover who now occupy the relegation play-off spot above Fürth and Bochum.
The remaining sixteen teams in the Bundesliga all play on Saturday afternoon, with the pick of the ties being 3rd-place Mainz at home to Schalke, with the sides level on 56 points and only separated by a 2-goal difference.
Top plays bottom as Borussia Dortmund welcome VfL Bochum to Signal Iduna Park, while 2nd-place Bayern Munich travel to second-bottom Fürth. If Bochum lose and Hannover avoid defeat at home to Nürnberg then they’ll be the first side to be relegated.
