[DD] Sven Bender Deal; Transfers; UEFA Draws

MONDAY 23 JUNE 2014: Sven Bender has signed a three-year contract extension with Borussia Dortmund, reportedly worth £92,000 p/w for the 25 year-old central midfielder. Bender was one of seven players on Joachim Löw’s initial 30-man squad for Brazil 2014, but didn’t make the final cut.

Liverpool have spent a large chunk of the £42m they received for Lucas Leiva by paying £10.5m for Werder Bremen’s 23 year-old midfielder Aleksandar Ignjovski, and paying Newcastle United £24m for 25 year-old Dutch midfielder Vurnon Anita.

Slovakian midfielder Miroslav Stoch has left Fenerbahçe for Arsenal in a £11.25m move.

Henrik Mkhitaryan has moved from Shakhtar Donetsk to Manchester City for £11.75m.

UEFA have drawn the first two rounds for the qualifying stages of the Champions League and Europa League competitions. The Champions League Champions First Qualifying Phase only features four clubs – the domestic champions of the lowest ranked nations – from Andorra, San Marino, Faroe Islands, and Armenia.

The winners progress to the Champions Second Qualifying Phase with 32 other clubs including Celtic, Dinamo Zagreb, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Steaua Bucharest, and Legia Warsaw. The competition begins on 02 July.

In the Europa League, 74 clubs enter at the First Qualifying Round, with the 37 winners being joined by 43 new clubs in the Second Qualifying Round. The only German representatives at this stage, VfL Bochum face Tre Fiori of San Marino over two legs in the 1QR on 03 and 10 July.
